June 2020
THE EARTH HEALS.
An unplanned grand experiment is changing Earth. The year 2020 was supposed to be an important year of change and new beginnings. It came with promises of pollution control and sustainable development. As people across the globe stay home to stop the spread of the new coronavirus, the air has cleaned up, and the earth is healing. Smog stopped choking New Delhi, the Venice canals and Ganges water are beautifully clear, and the stars are said to be 'shining brighter'.
The earth and it's ozone have been healing itself while we stay locked down in our houses. All this shows the power nature possesses to make things right, even after we have taken it all for granted- nature just offered us an opportunity for change. In our lifetimes I'm not sure if we would ever have seen the impact of such a sudden stop in travel, shopping, buying gas, jumping on the subway, non-stop consuming, and waste, lots of waste, before waking up and doing it all over again.
Two new studies, published in the journal of Geophysical Research Letters, found that nitrogen dioxide pollution over northern China, Western Europe and the US decreased by as much as 60 per cent in early 2020 as compared to the same time last year. The researchers noted that improvements in air quality will likely be temporary, but the findings provide a glimpse into what air quality could be like in the future if we were to alter our impact.
There’s also a silver lining for wildlife in what otherwise is a fairly catastrophic time for humans. When people stay home, Earth becomes cleaner and wilder. Leaders, researchers and entrepreneurs must look at sustainable models with the earth at the centre. A virus has made the world this disciplined; we can surely continue putting up such defiance to combat climate change.
We work with sustainable materials in an effort to reduce our toll on the earth, and our waste. It's inspiring how clean the world could be, and makes us want to do even more for a better tomorrow. We're not saying that this life of staying home, and missing out on the whole worlds beauty is a long-term thing, but if 2020 will leave a message for us, it's that everything we need is already within us, nature and beauty in the small things, and this non-stop burn out lifestyle, also burns out our planet, and she will find her way of telling us so. Maybe it was mother natures way of saying no more, teaching us a lesson, like mothers do.
